All of of us at one time or another feel tired and have less energy.  This can be for lots of reasons including… hormonal issues and stress.  I have tried to give you some pointers that can help increase your energy and followed regularly you should see an improvement in quite a short space of time.

  • It may seem obvious, but eating small regular meals through the day really can help. Include protein rich foods that are low in sugar and low in bad fats. Increase your iron and choose green leafy veg, red meat, beans and nuts. Eat more fish too, especially the fish rich in Omega rich oils, tuna and salmon.
  • Perk yourself up with exercise. At times you may say ‘ I am too tired to exercise’ but it is a FACT that regular exercise will make you feel less tired in the long run and improve your mood increase your energy. Choose an exercise that you like and  that you will stick to, and see your energy levels and feeling of well-being improve.
  • Try to reduce your stress and sleep well.  This can be easier said than done, but lack of sleep and stress are responsible for many health conditions. Try some breathing techniques and meditation, as we do in our yoga class. Just 10 minutes a day can really make a difference.  The better you sleep the more alive you will feel and more healthier you will be.
  • Drink more water.  I am always telling my ladies to drink more water.  You should be drinking at least 2/3 litres per day and more if you work out. Set yourself a task…. Start today and try to drink 2 litres every day for a week and monitor how you feel afterwards.  I am sure you will feel better in general and have more energy.
  • Drink less alcohol. Although drinking a couple of glasses of wine of an evening may help you sleep, you actually sleep less deeply after drinking alcohol. The next day you will feel more tired and be dehydrated which will make you feel sluggish too.
  • Cut down on the sugary snacks, fizzy drinks and chocolate. They will give your short term burst of energy, but this is short lived. Your blood sugar is then likely to drop afterwards which will make you feel more tired and sluggish than you did before the snack!
