This time of year in particular we are likely to increase our consumption of alcohol and BBQ/fast foods. I want to take a bit of time to break down some of the best and worst alcoholic drinks to consume if you are trying to lose weight or prevent putting it on. Of course we all deserve to enjoy a tipple, but all in moderation. We also need to make sure we have days without alcohol and exercise regularly.
1 pint of beer = 180 calories ( or an average size sausage roll)
1 pint of cider = 220 calories ( 1 iced doughnut)
175 ml glass of wine = 160 calories ( 1 medium latte)
1 glass of champagne or prosecco = 90 calories ( 1 choc digestive biscuit)
25ml shot of a spirit = 60 calories ( 1 small banana) Beware of the mixers you are using. Even some ‘diet’ tonics can be laced with sugar, which will of course turn to fat, if you over consume and go over your daily allowance. If you are working on a 2000 calorie daily diet, the sugar allowance is 25 grams or 6 tspoons, less if dieting.
Mixers: As a healthier option why not try sparking water. Its free of calories and artificial ingredients. You could also add fresh lime/lemon or watermelon with lots of ice, perhaps. A great source of vitamin c without all the extra sugar.
Of course I dont want to be a ‘kill joy’, but if you are trying to lose weight and you are increasing your consumption of booze, choose your options carefully. Otherwise by the end of the summer you may have undone all of your good work.
