Vitamin E helps maintain healthy skin and eyes and helps to strengthen the body’s natural defence against illness and infection.Vitamin E helps support the immune system, cell function, and skin health. It’s an antioxidant, making it effective at combating the effects of free radicals produced by the metabolism of food and toxins in the environment. Vitamin E may be beneficial at reducing UV damage to skin.
Good sources of vitamin E can be found in the following foods: Plant oils, such as soya, corn and olive oil, nuts and seeds and wheatgerm
It is recommended that men should get 4mg per day and women it is 3mg. You should be able to get enough vitamin E from your diet and it is a vitamin that is stored, so you do not need to have it in your diet every day.
Vitamin E deficiency is very rare in the UK. Vitamin E deficiency can cause nerve and muscle damage that results in loss of feeling in the arms and legs, loss of body movement control, muscle weakness, and vision problems. Another sign of deficiency is a weakened immune system.
As with most vitamins there are some good supplements available to buy over the counter if it suggested you may need a boost.
