So we are now in the festive period in the run up to Christmas! This is a fun time of year for most of us, and a time when a lot of us will over indulge and do very little exercise. I shall be enjoying my Christmas break and will enjoy the rest.
However i know how important it is to avoid piling on the pounds around this time of year. I am a firm believer in the saying ‘ All in moderation’ and portion size, i don’t believe restricting yourself completely of treats is good for your body or mental well-being. Enjoy Christmas day, taste your food, eat slowly, and enjoy a few glasses of fizz or whatever your tipple maybe. Once Christmas day is over avoid snacking constantly on fatty, high calorie snacks, instead allow a few treats each day and then add in some healthy nuts, veg and protein rich foods.
Over the Christmas break try to eat when you are hungry…. sometimes our body can confuse us, and when we think we are hungry we are actually dehydrated. We are recommended to drink 3/4 litres of water a day, but i do realise over Xmas this may be the last drink on our minds! So try to drink at least a 1 litre bottle particularly when you feel hungry, this will curb the feeling for a while and will help to re hydrate you from the excess alcohol that tends to be consumed at this time. I am drinking water with a slice of lemon in at the moment, on the run up to Christmas too. This is great for flushing out the system, aid digestion and can increase your energy levels too!
Lastly but not least it is extremely important to keep up some form of exercise. My classes are on break for 2 weeks, so in this time I will be aiming to do at least 3 x 1 hour exercise sessions each week. I may mix this up with some more high impact exercise lasting 10 mins, which I will post on my Facebook page over Xmas for anyone who would like to have a go? Just 10 minutes a day 3 or 4 times a week will help keep off the pounds and keep your fitness levels up.
Also for those of you who come to my yoga classes, try some of the postures we have learnt. They are great for toning, stretching and of course releasing some of the stress that is also connected with Christmas. Remember if you want to lose weight you need to be working off more calories than you are consuming, and to maintain your weight, you need to be keep both at an equal level. If you know you have had a particularly bad day over indulging, don’t beat yourself up…. get back on track and do some exercise. Even a brisk walk, in the park for a couple of hours will help.
Have a lovely Christmas…. my classes are still on until 21st December so feel free to come along and workout and enjoy.
In the new year I will be here from January 4th, with classes and also for any of my current clients my ‘New’ detox will be on offer for free. I will be adding some new recipes to encourage some great results, over 1 or two weeks.
Drop me a line if you have any questions, I am always keen to help or advise where I can.
Bev xx
