Since taking my classes on line I have been able to add in new classes to my timetable. One of those being Body Conditioning and most recently our Upper Body Workout. Both of these classes use light hand weights.

Using light hand weights  say 1kg up to 3kg will not make you bulk up or grow enormous muscles, but what it will do is to,  help you tone up, burn more calories and  gain muscle strength.  Also remember weight bearing or resistance exercise is best for your bones. Keeping them healthy and strong especially during and after the menopause.

As many of you may not have used any weights before we are currently using lighter weights, but still very effective. Lighter weights become even more effective when using increased reps( repetitions).  I am looking to bring a new class on board over coming months that will use weights throughout the class. This adds another dimension to the workout and will give you the option to improve your strength and fitness without using ‘high impact’ exercise. This means it is suitable for everyone.  It work all areas of the body but will use hand weights or dumb bells.

If you do not have hand weights/dumbbells,  or course you can use bottles of water or cans of food. However I really would recommend purchasing a set if you are working out with me, as we are going to use them more often and they are easier to use,  If you need any help with buying some please send me a message. I currently use 1.5kg which i find fine at the moment, but i may increase as the time goes on. I would suggest buying between 1kg and up to 3kg for ladies, heavier for men.

If you have tried any of my classes using weights yet, don’t be put off, thinking you can’t do it, as you can.  You can start off slowly and build up if you need to. As i have said many times, slow, consistent improvement is the best and you are more likely to stick with it.
