Many people come to yoga with the misconception that it’s just a bit of stretching.  That could not be further from the truth. Have a read below about some of the many health benefits from regularly attending my Yoga and relaxation class.

  • Yoga can help to lower stress hormones. These are same hormones that can play havoc when we are trying to lose weight, and also can affect the immune system negatively.
  • Regular yoga practice helps to improve flexibility in the body as well as the mind. It helps our muscles and joints to move as they were designed to, and reducing the risk of injury
  • I am often told how well my ladies sleep after our yoga class which is so important when our lives can be so manic and stressful.
  • Believe it or not yoga can improve IBS and other digestive disorders. The twisting process in yoga helps to compress and massage the digestive organs restoring them to health
  • Yoga is a weight bearing exercise which means it is great for building muscle!
  • During an hour yoga class your body will eliminate toxins and help detoxify the body. As you stretch, pull, compress and twist you are increasing the oxygen pumping around the body
  • Also yoga is great for improving your posture. If you have a sitting down day job this is particularly important. I have noticed a big improvement in my own posture since teaching yoga.
  • Bone density starts to decrease naturally after the age of 30 which means it is very important to practice exercise that helps maintain the bones and avoid conditions like osteoporosis.
  • More than ever these days we are looking at ways to reduce stress and yoga is a great way to help do this. During my yoga class you will be encouraged to work with your body and at the end of the class during relaxation given the chance to exercise the mind using some meditation techniques. I often use incense or an aroma difuser in class, as this adds to the relaxing ambience, and is very popular with my ladies.

My Yoga and relaxation class is on every Wednesday evening at 7pm to 8pm at Fairfax school and is suitable for beginners too. This class is open to both men and women.  Just bring a mat and an open mind x
