There was a cold snap this week, and it could get worse, before it gets better.  This shouldnt be a reason to stop exercising.  So why do some of us feel the need to hibernate in the winter months and up to Christmas especially? Why waste all of the good work you have done up to now??

Winter months bring on dark nights too, which can leave us feeling a bit low and lethargic. However the best treatment for that is exercise!  We release ‘feel good’ hormones when we work out and this will leave you feeling revived and refreshed.  You might be cold on the way to class or walking from the car to the room, but you will soon warm up inside!  Exercise apart from keeping us fit and flexible,  can improve  our mood and our general feeling of well being.  There is the social aspect too. If you work out as part of a group it is so much more fun, and great for encouraging each other, and laughing loads!  Now is the time to work on earning those Xmas treats, its not time for becoming a couch potato.  Remember the healthier you are now, the less impact Xmas indulgences are likely to have, and the easier you will find it in January.  One of the things I hear a lot of people say is, they will start in the new year.  All this state of mind does, is pile more pressure on yourself and give you a bigger hill to climb.

Stick with it now, and you will be much happier and much healthier than those who choose to curl up on the couch,  and in January you will still fit in that little black dress!
